This week’s challenge: To Behold the Divine. I took the opportunity to get Liam the Black back out there, even for a non-canon story, to explain a little bit more where he comes from and why has little patience for gods, spirits and other such hoodoo. Maybe not quite what the challenge was calling for, but given my current state of mind it was good to write something, maybe even especially because a Liam the Black story was just rejected. You didn’t think I’d forgotten about this, did you? So yes, the continuing adventures of Graciano, Ramiro and Viktoria. When last we left our intrepid adventurers they were on board a ship, headed for the Serpent’s Archipelago. In their possession is a map, and unknown forces are after it as well. They’d been suddenly becalmed when pirates caught up to them. Surely this won’t end well.

As always, comments and feedback is welcome. If nothing else, I might pull these disparate posts together into something resembling an actual… well novel might be a tad ambitious, but surely a novella is within the realm of possibility.

This week’s Wendig challenge. I’m not in love with how it came out, but I lost the original part of the draft and recreated it on short notice. So, yeah. Anyway, in case you couldn’t guess, my random title gave me Betrayer’s Bastards. A bit over the 1k limit, but not atrociously so.   (more…)

This week’s Chuck Wendig challenge: Five Little Words. I went with hermit, topaz, djinn, whalebone, and orphan. More an urban fantasy piece, and surprisingly, not the first time I’ve used a curio shop as a setting. Slightly over the word count of 1k, but only just.
